About this Opportunity: Our CEP America Kaweah Delta Emergency Department, in collaboration with Kaweah Delta Medical Center, has established an ACGME accredited Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The PGY 1-3 program will have six residents per year; the first class is starting July 1st, 2013. Our academic affiliate is University of California, Irvine. This position is eligible for faculty academic appointment with the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. Details: The newly accredited Emergency Medicine Residency at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in California’s Central Valley seeks an Academic Chair to lead its program. The successful candidate will have exceptional administrative, motivational, and organizational skills and a national reputation as a leader in academic medicine in the areas of medical education, clinical care and research. The program enjoys the Medical Center’s full support. This is a rare opportunity to build a legacy in emergency medicine and develop and shape a new academic program while working in a trauma receiving facility.
Responsibilities:The individual chosen will have major responsibilities for our newly accredited community-based university-affiliated residency in: EM faculty development, faculty oversight, ED operations, amongst others.
About the Site: Kaweah Delta Medical Center (www.kaweahdelta.org) is one of the largest regional referral centers for an array of services in California's Central Valley. It’s a not-for-profit district hospital, licensed for over 400 beds. The emergency department is a Level III trauma facility that sees more than 80,000+ patients annually and recently opened a remodeled and expanded department with 44+ ED beds. The medical center is innovative and forwarding thinking – it boasts a hospital-wide, completely electronic medical record system and it is driving the Graduate Medical Education initiative by starting additional residencies in 4 other specialties: Surgery, Family Medicine, Transitional Year, and Psychiatry.
The Community: The city of Visalia is located between Bakersfield and Fresno in the Central California Valley, and has a population of over 100,000. It is within close proximity to numerous outdoor activities in Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park.
