Resolved Question
Does anyone use a "pain protocol" in their department?
If so, how is it received by nursing and physicians? would you please share your protocol with us by uploading to the "resources" section? much thanks.

We don't have one, but I frequently informally implement one with my nurses. Something as casual as "I ordered one of dilaudid - you can give the 2nd one whenever he needs it; let me know if you do and I'll put in the order." A bunch of the nurses really like that, not just because it's good for patients but dilaudid comes in 2 mg vials and then they don't have to Waste it.
